007 fans have been waiting to hear the words: “The name’s Bond, James Bond” for over four years now, but who will be the next to say that iconic phrase is still a question on everybody’s lips.
With the major news last month that US tech giant Amazon will be taking over from long-term Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, the rumor mill has once again been churning about who will be cast as the next 007.
Many fans are willing to place bets on long-running favorites, including British actors Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Meanwhile, some fresh faces are appearing on the scene, with predictions on Kalshi rapidly increasing in value for underdogs such as Damson Idris.
So, who will the new Amazon bosses cast to fill Daniel Craig’s (shiny) shoes in the 26th movie in the iconic British franchise? The Kalshi predictions are in.

Superman in the Lead for Bond Role – But for How Long?
Top of Kalshi predictions is British actor Henry Cavill at 14%.
Cavill has been rumored as favorite to take on the famous spy role for quite some time now, and it’s easy to see why. He’s British, he’s got the right suave, gentlemanly look – plus – he’s already used to saving the day, thanks to his portrayal of Superman in the DC Extended Universe.
If you ask me though, I wouldn’t place all your bets on Cavill being the chosen one. While he certainly has the right credentials to play 007, I suspect that the Amazon bosses will want to take the franchise in a different direction for their first Bond casting under the new ownership.
The main factor is that Cavill is now 41 years old, which doesn’t mean he’s totally off the table, but it’s more likely that a younger actor will take on the role to attract the Gen Z and millennial audiences and offer some longevity. Even Cavill himself itted he “might be too old now” when he appeared on The Rich Eisen show. After all, our most recent 007, Daniel Craig, played the role for 15 years, so the producers may be on the hunt for another long-serving spy.
It’s still a total possibility that Henry Cavill could indeed be the next Bond, but the clock is ticking…
Aaron Taylor-Johnson Remains Second Favorite
Another name that’s been in the Bond ring for a few years now is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is currently sitting at 11% on Kalshi.
Now this is a far more suited British spy, if you ask me. He’s younger (sorry, Cavill), he’s got bags of swagger, and has plenty of martial arts training from appearing in films such as Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tenet, and Bullet Train, which would certainly put him in good standing against his competitors.
Damson Idris to Swoop in as Bond?
In third place of Kalshi predictions at 9% (and rapidly increasing) is newcomer, Damson Idris.
Hailing from London, Damson Idris is best known for starring in John Singleton’s crime drama series, Snowfall (2017-2023). The star will also be appearing in the Apple TV F1 racing film, acting alongside Brad Pitt – meaning he’s one to watch in 2025.
Casting Idris as the first black Bond would certainly be a refreshing spin, and could be exactly what the franchise needs to have a shake up and bring in new audiences. With more and more major TV shows and films beginning to disregard race in casting choices (just look at Ncuti Gatwa as the most recent Doctor Who and Paapa Essiedu recently being announced as HBO’s Snape in the new Harry Potter adaptation), having Idris as the next 007 would be another progressive step towards achieving inclusivity and diversity within the film industry.

Sean Connery 2.0
Also at 9% on Kalshi is Scottish actor, Richard Madden. Another fantastic contender, given his varying repertoire of acting roles including Citadel, Eternals, Game of Thrones, Rocketman, and Cinderella. Most notably, though, you may know Madden from his outstanding performance in the 2018 BBC drama, The Bodyguard. Portraying a war veteran whose duty is to protect a high-profile politician, Madden showed off both his detective and combat skills – both of which are essential for a role like Bond.
Plus, it wouldn’t be the first time we had a Scottish Bond – isn’t that right, Sean Connery?
James Norton
Finally, we have British actor, James Norton who is currently sitting at 5% on Kalshi predictions.
Though he’s the lowest on the shortlist leaderboard, Norton should not be overlooked – he’s got fantastic range. No stranger to playing an authoritative baddie such as Tommy Lee Royce in the BBC One drama Happy Valley, and on the flipside, the perfect gentleman as seen in his portrayal of John in Little Women (opposite Emma Watson), Norton could well be the underdog Bond that we’ve all been waiting for.
Who Else Could Be a Bond Contender?
Who else should be in the running to bag the next big Bond role? One name that isn’t on many of the odds tables – but absolutely should be – is British actor, Theo James.
Getting the obvious out of the way first: Theo James is tall, dark, handsome, and basically fills the 007 requirements to a tee. But more than that, his acting history has also shown he’s fit for the job, from his action-packed role in the sci-fi series, Divergent, to his laid-back charismatic portrayal in the second series of The White Lotus. Not to mention his most recent venture in the (most fittingly titled) drama, The Gentlemen. Yep, James is ticking a lot of Bond boxes.

Could Bond be Irish?
Now, how about a little craic? Ireland has been producing some of the hottest actors in Hollywood as of late, including the likes of Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan – both of which have just been announced as playing two of the “fab four” in the much-awaited Beatles’ biopic. Of course, both have stellar discographies in their own rights. Paul, best known for his breakout performance in the BBC Adaptation, Normal People, and more recently the Blockbuster Ridley Scott sequel, Gladiator 2. Meanwhile, Barry has received many accolades for his performances, including Saltburn and the Banshees of Inisherin.
Perhaps it’s blasphemy to cast an Irishman to play a British gent, but there’s no denying that both Mescal and Keoghan would be obvious choices if the producers want one of the most-watched young male actors to take the lead.
Only time will tell what will happen with the casting of the next James Bond. One thing we know for sure, as we see at the end of every 007 flick: “James Bond will return…”.
Just with a new look.
