â How to Play Craps for Real Money

Learn all the details about online craps and how to play this free game.
The craps table is an integral part of the land-based casino experience. While playing online craps might not give you the same experience as playing with other players in person, it offers the all the excitement with the comforts of home.
Before you start, you need to master the rules and craps lingo. Despite the busy table layout, itâs easy even for beginners to learn to play; follow our step-by-step guide to get started with the most common type of craps online. to check out the minimum and maximum bet limits before the game begins.
- Craps is played in two phases. You begin a round with basic bets on either the Line or Donât Bar. The shooter then throws a come-out roll with two dice. If they roll the dice into a 7 or 11, the Line bets win. If 2, 3, or 12 hits, the Donât bets win. If the shooter throws any other number, nobody wins or loses. Instead, that number becomes the point number.
- If the roller sets a point number, Line wagers depend on that point hitting. So if the shooter throws a 4, you hope 4 is rolled before a 7. If a 7 comes up first, all Line bettors lose, whereas Donât bets win. Note that the other three numbers (2, 3, or 12) from the come-out roll donât matter anymore at this stage.
- If you hit a point, the round continues, and you can place new Line bets. You continue playing and throwing the dice until you lose a bet. Experienced players bet several wagers during a game. A new shooter takes over every round, the turn ing around the table.
- What about wagering? During the come-out roll, always place a Line bet, which has a better chance of winning than a Donât bet. Of the numbers a roller can make, 7 is the most common, hitting 16.67% of the time. Together 7 and 11 (hits 5.56% of the time), your bet wins 22.23% of the time, meaning they have the best odds.
- What about Come and Donât Come bets? After the first roll, the shooter continues throwing, and these wagers function like the Line and Donât bets, but they last for the rest of the round. You choose either one of the choices, and then the next roll determines the number you either want to appear or not before a 7.
These steps cover the basics of craps to help you get started with the games. There is much more to craps, though, so you can look into more complex rules and strategies.
Free Odds Bets
The return-to-player percentage (RTP) for Line, Donât , Come, and Donât Come bets are pretty favorable when you play real money craps online. Wagering on these outcomes will get 98.6% of your money back in the long run.
However, the best way to narrow the house edge even further is to bet on any of these options and make âFree Oddsâ wagers during the point phase. These wagers have no house edge, aka have âtrue oddsâ. These are the best bets you can make in real money games.
When you place a free odds bet with a bet or Come bet, your RTP increases to 99.2%. Do it together with a Donât / Donât Come bet, and the payout percentage rises to 99.3%. If the game allows a double odds bet, you can push your RTP to 99.5% and win big if youâre lucky!
Other Bets in a Game
Craps tables have more bets you can make in addition to the multi-roll bets we just covered. Field Bets, Big 6 and Big 8, and Any Seven are some of the other craps bets that are available to you but we donât recommend you place these bets. Letâs see what other craps wagers exist.
- Field Bet: Can be placed on a specific number after the come-out roll; if the dice land on 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 on the next roll, you win. Most wins are even money.
- Big 6 and Big 8: These are sucker bets; you bet that a 6 or an 8 comes up on a dice roll before a 7. The house edge on these bets is very high, so we donât recommend them.
- Any Craps: This means rolling the dice to 2, 3, or 12 next. Most players avoid these wagers and look for better odds.
- Hardways: The shooter hits a pair on the dice on the next throw.
- Place Bets: A place bet relates to the numbers at the top of the table; you can place proposition bets on the point numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 to come before a 7 is rolled.
- Any Seven: Bets that the shooter rolls a 7 next.
The 3% Rule
Want to avoid significant losses at the craps table? Then follow what many players know as the 3% rule. In short, you should never wager on anything with less than 97% RTP, which translates into a decent house edge.
Bad bets that violate the 3% rule include single roll bets, any craps, hardways, and hop bets. The worst offender is the âAny Sevenâ square â it has a dismal RTP of 83.3%, which means you are unlikely to beat the house often.
